Illustrating this book was a humbling experience. As an illustrator, I wanted to create a book that would help children learn about the difficult concept of saying goodbye. Whether it’s a temporary goodbye at the end of a school day or a permanent goodbye due to death, children need to know that these experiences are normal and that they can find comfort and support in those around them.

That’s why I chose to use soft pastel colours and warm tones in my illustrations, and to include animal characters that children can relate to. I wanted to create a safe and comforting environment where children can explore their emotions and learn how to cope with goodbyes in a healthy way.

But “See You Later” is also about democracy and the importance of fighting against dictatorship. It’s about the importance of standing up for what is right, and even in the face of difficult situations, hope and resilience are always within arm’s reach.

I am proud to have worked on this book, and I hope that it will help young readers navigate the many goodbyes they will encounter throughout their lives.
